March, 2015 - Foundation fund raiser

Many club members enjoyed at get-together and fundraiser at the popular PizzaRev pizzaria in support of our charitable foundation.

February, 2015 - Sponsoring Cub Scout Packs, Quarter Auction

The club sponsored and funded two Cub Scout Packs hosted by McGrath Elementary and Newhall Elementary schools respectively.

We conducted our fifth annual Quarter Auction at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex. Proceeds were received and will be distributed by our newly chartered Santa Clarita Optimist Foundation which has been recognized as a 501C)(3) tax exempt organization by the Internal Revenue Service. December, 2014 - Festival of Trees, Holiday gifts for the Santa Clarita Domestic Violence Center, Holiday gifts for residents of a group home for troubled youth

Our club submitted an entry for the annual Optimist Youth Home Festival of Trees. The tree was decorated with many memorabilia items and gifts donated by the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team. Ten members of the club attended this festive event.

The club 'adopted' 3 families identified by the Santa Clarita Valley Domestic Violence Center, providing Christmas gifts for the children and sheltered parents.

The club purchased and delivered six $50.00 gift cards for the residents of an Optimist group home.

November, 2014 - Thanksgiving Care Boxes

Club members donated more than 50 boxes of canned and other non-pershiable food items to be distributed to needy families throughout Santa Clarita.

October, 2014 - Installation of new Officers and Board, Santa Clarita Philharmonic, Optimist of the Year

On Monday, October 13, Jim Oliver, member of Optimist International Board of Directors installed newly elected Officers and Board members for the 2014-2015 Optimist Year. Serving as President, Vice Presidents and Secretary-Treasurer respectively are: Eliot Golomb, LeAnn Hammons, Teri Stokes and Hugh McDonald. Board members are: Jayna Bailey, Kevin Browning, Jesse Toral, Larrie Rhodes, Adelaide Moniz, Casey Klein, Catherine Hartnek and Tim Davis. Norb Moniz is Immediate Past President.

The club donated $750.00 to fund the Santa Clarita Philharmonic Orchestra's inaugural Student Concerto Competition to take place in 2015. The competition is open to students throughout the William H. Hart Schoold District as well as private and charter schools. The winner will perfom at the Santa Clarita Philharmonic's concert on May 17, 2015.

The club was pleased to recognize Jayna Bailey as our Optimist of the Year for her dedication and service to the ideal of making life better for children.

September, 2014 - Santa Clarita Day For Kids Responding to a request from the Santa Clarita Boys and Girls Club, the club funded, prepared and served more than 1,000 Quesedillas to children attending the annual Santa Clarita Day For Kids event at Newhall Park.

August, 2014 - Goodwill Industries Fundraiser, Annual Bowl-a-Thon

On Saturday, August 2nd, the Santa Clarita Optimist Foundation held a Fundraiser at Vista Valencia Golf Course. A truck, provided by Goodwill Industries, was set up to receive donations of clothing provided by club members and others.

On Thursday, August 8th, the Canyon Country Optimist Club hosted more than 120 Residents and Staff of the Optimist Youth Home to 3 hours of bowling and a pizza lunch at Santa Clarita Lanes. Members Bob Collins, Eliot Golomb, Linda Ceyala, Paul Domino and Hugh McDonald were on hand to see that everything went smoothly. Kudos and special thank yous to the staff at Santa Clarita Lanes for all their help and the many kindnesses they have extended to us throughout the years.

May, 2014 - Optimist Blind Olympics, Santa Clarita Domestic Violence Center The club was a major sponsor of the Optimist Blind Olympics, held on the first weekend in May.

The club also helped sponsor the Santa Clarita Domestic Violence Center's 2nd annual Fairy Houses and Beyond Breakfast event held on May 25.

April, 2014 - Cowboy Poetry Festival

On April 24 - 27, the club hosted a corn roasting booth at the annual Santa Clarita Cowboy Poetry Festival.

March, 2014: - Quarter Auction

On March 8th the Canyon Country Optimist Club hosted its 4th Annual Quarter Auction to raise funds to support local and regional youth activities. At the 2014 auction We were pleased to have been able to auction and raffle off over 100 items, raising more than $37,000! View the highlights here.

January, 2014: - Tour of Space Shuttle Endeavor for Optimist group homes

The club joined with 3 other Optimist clubs in providing financial and logistical support to enable the residents of 3 Optimist group homes to visit the space shuttle Endeavor exhibit housed at the California Science Center.
